Meet the Walsh team

James McSwiney

“At the end of a project, I take pride in looking back and considering the hard work and collaborative effort that has turned a concept sketch into reality, and a new addition to the built environment.”

James is a strong technical engineer with a detailed eye, yet still able to maintain a view of the bigger picture. He strives to maintain a pragmatic attitude in his work and is always keen to learn more about new technology that can offer innovative solutions to clients. This is evidenced in part by his particular expertise in the design of post-tensioned concrete.

James particularly enjoys the initial stages of a project when he provides benefit by working with the design team to develop and refine the concept schemes. He is equally adept during detailed design, tender and construction phases when he is typically the main point of contact for the Client and external design team. He is widely regarded by those he works with as a very proactive and pragmatic engineer.

Within the company, James is responsible for ensuring his projects are adequately resourced, and on track to meet key deadlines. He oversees the design and modelling carried out by engineers and technicians and provides guidance and support as necessary. James is a member of Walsh’s technical panel, and a mentor to graduate engineers on the ICE accredited training scheme.
