Student Accommodation

We were able to offer our structural expertise on this 450 bed development for students involving extensive excavation and drainage systems within a heavily populated area.

Walsh were tasked to develop the Urbanest St.Pancras complex, situated in Zone 1 central London. This was a 450 bed scheme of student accommodation and affordable housing made up of self-contained studios, shared duplex flats with en-suite rooms, and 3 bed shared flats. As the site was located next to a historic British canal the large excavation job required extensive planning. It was imperative that we respected the adjoining existing wall separating the development from the highway. We were able to assist in seeking the relevant approvals to get the job moving swiftly, such as the Approvement In Principle (AIP) for highway structure and design and the consent from the Canal and River Trust. Once these were in place we devised a works methodology with the client and also implemented a drainage strategy to limit pumping. We also advised on how to manage the site with minimal impact on the public.
