Egyptian Ambassadors Residence

The Egyptian Ambassadors residence is an impressive Grade 1 listed Georgian building in the heart of Mayfair that required aesthetic refurbishment and structural assessment to prepare for a significant upgrade.

Walsh were required to advise on and design both the refurbishment and structural aspects of this project. The refurbishment task involved careful attention to ornate and highly decorative features both internally and also on the external facades. The main structural alteration to the building focused on the reconfiguration of the basement. This provided an improved environment for the staff and allowed modern kitchen and ventilation equipment to be installed. Walsh were able to carry out a thorough assessment and give advice on the condition of the structure. Brickwork stresses were analysed to develop a schedule of lintels and ‘box-frames’ for the myriad of new openings. Where defects were identified, we worked closely with the architect and the contractor to design repairs that were both sympathetic to the structure and practical for the contractor to implement.
