New Capital Quay

This multi-use concrete based development posed challenges due to its waterside location and required close collaboration with The Environment Agency to ensure minimum impact on the environment.

New Capital Quay is one of the largest multi-use developments within the Greenwich Peninsula area. This waterside development consists of a large supermarket complex, along with high-rise and medium-rise structures and town houses creating a new village environment.

This was primarily a structural and civil assignment for Walsh and involved our expertise with concrete and flat slab with concrete frames. We were also required to develop an eco-friendly beach. Working closely with the Environmental Agency, we were able to establish a crash protection system to ensure that during extreme weather conditions the river walls were protected from stray vessels. We also worked with them to prepare all the documentation needed to gain approval for construction works to proceed. This included all the temporary and permanent work designs adjacent to the river walls, which varied in construction from Victorian brickwork through to sheet piled walls and coffer dams constructions.

We were able to value engineer this project by working closely with pilers and geotechnical consultants to install pile foundations and eliminate the need for heave mats. We also designed the full drainage and infrastructure system including dispersal into the river.
