Meath Gardens, Bethnal Green


We were appointed as the Structural, Civil, Geotechnical and Traffic Consultants on this housing regeneration project located in Meath Gardens, breathing new life into East London.

This development comprises 258 apartments, arranged in 6 blocks of medium rise residential affordable and private housing. The apartments were arranged in a string of blocks, over a basement car park.

We designed the high-rise blocks as post-tensioned concrete and for the lower blocks we suggested load-bearing masonry. The two affordable housing units were designed to an Ecohomes scheme rating of “Very Good”. As well as providing the structural design, we provided regular site inspections to ensure that these units were also built to the Housing Associations strict in-house specifications.

The site posed several challenges due to its former use as a railway sidings and the fact it was situated next to a railway viaduct. A SUDS solution proved suitable to meet the drainage needs of the site. We were also able to use lean construction methods as part of the sustainability strategy for our client.
