A constantly evolving civil engineering challenge, resulting in the design and planning of river wall improvements within the Royal Docks site adjacent to the River Thames.

When Ballymore Properties approached us on this project we were initially tasked with developing plans for a large marina. We identified early on that access to the proposed marina would be restricted to a small window of time either side of high tide. Working with specialist marine consultants we were able to suggest a workable and environmentally sound solution. However, due to the limited access predicted, the client decided to discontinue further plans for a marina and instead focus solely on the river wall and flood defence issues. Walsh were able to develop the concept and details for these river wall improvements within the Royal Docks site adjacent to the Thames. We assisted in seeking flood defence consent on behalf of our client and as a result a 150m river wall was designed and delivered through our civil engineering team. This project shows our versatility in adapting to changes in project requirements such as the termination of the marina plans. In this, as in any case, we will always put our client’s needs at the forefront and achieve a result that is right for both them and the environment.
