Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield UK headquarters

This office development formed part of Walsh’s commission to design the extension to Westfield London in Shepherds Bush London. During construction of the Phase 2 development we were asked to investigate the viability of adding additional storeys to the food and beverage area. The extra storeys were to become Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield’s UK headquarters.

The three storeys are based around a 9m grid and constructed with cellular steel beams and composite deck floors. As the steelwork for the lower floors was already in fabrication the vertical elements were adapted and strengthened insitu on site. Walsh also designed and planned alterations to the existing frame where the new levels linked into the main shopping centre. All retrofit work was designed to enable continuity of construction.

The foundation scheme needed to be completely changed with a new form of piling as the office and F&B units were constructed over one of the most constrained areas of the site. A number of piles were constructed through abandoned tube tunnels while the remaining piles were placed between further live running tunnels and pedestrian links.
